Security guards in Sutton

Sutton is a suburban borough with a metropolitan town centre, industrial estates at Beddington and Kimpton where spare space is scarce, and a life-sciences campus growing at the London Cancer Hub in Belmont. Albiz Security can provide SIA-licensed officers for shops on Sutton's pedestrianised high street, gatehouses on its industrial estates, and the building sites that come with new labs and homes.

Which parts of Sutton do we cover?

We cover all of Sutton, from Worcester Park and North Cheam in the west to Wallington, Hackbridge and Beddington in the east, and Belmont in the south.

Sutton town centre is the borough’s metropolitan centre, with a pedestrianised high street and a BID, Successful Sutton (GLA). Its Opportunity Area held more than 11,671 jobs in 2023, 16% of the borough’s total. The council’s draft Local Plan backs regeneration there, including redeveloping the Civic Offices sites, moving Sutton College to the High Street and improving the gyratory (Sutton Council).

District centres. Carshalton Village, Cheam Village, North Cheam, Rosehill, Wallington and Worcester Park are district centres, and Hackbridge is marked as a future one (London Plan).

Belmont. The London Cancer Hub is a partnership between the council and The Institute of Cancer Research, supported by The Royal Marsden and Epsom and St Helier hospital trusts (Sutton Council). The GLA’s 2025 review cites 3,200 jobs already on the campus. Its planned expansion brings over a million square feet of research and laboratory space (Sutton Council).

Industrial land. The borough’s three Strategic Industrial Locations are Beddington, Kimpton and Imperial Way (Sutton Council). In the London Plan, Beddington Lane forms one industrial area with the Purley Way across the border in Croydon.

Hospitals. St Helier Hospital is on Wrythe Lane in Carshalton, and The Royal Marsden is part of the Belmont campus.

What needs guarding in Sutton?

Busy industrial estates. Evidence for the council’s draft Local Plan found high demand for industrial space, a lack of supply and very low vacancy rates, and the draft plans about 111,000 square metres of new industrial space through intensifying existing estates and adding new sites (Sutton Council). With few empty units, gates stay in use, so warehouse and industrial security starts at the gatehouse: checking drivers, vehicles and visitors in and out, then patrolling the yard when the site closes.

Labs and research buildings. New research and laboratory buildings at the London Cancer Hub may need controlled entry. Our office security officers can run reception, sign visitors in and control who gets past the front desk.

Building sites. Between the Cancer Hub’s expansion, the town centre regeneration and the draft plan’s 738 new homes a year, mostly in the town centre and district centres, Sutton has building work lined up for years. Construction site security covers the gate by day and the site at night.

Shops. On the high street and in the district centres, uniformed retail officers make shoplifting less likely and back up your staff.

Premises that close at night. For shops, offices and small units that don’t need an officer on site, mobile patrols check them at set or random times, and keyholding and alarm response means we attend when the alarm goes off.

What’s changing in Sutton?

Estates being built on while they trade. Intensifying an industrial estate means building work next to units that stay open. Plan security for both: the building site, and the businesses whose gates and yards it shares.

More trains to Belmont. A £14m Levelling Up Fund award in 2023 aims to double train frequency between the London Cancer Hub and central London by 2027 (GLA). As the campus grows, plan reception and visitor cover for more staff and visitors arriving by rail.

More homes in the district centres. The draft Local Plan directs most new homes to Sutton town centre and the district centres. Small sites on high streets such as Cheam, Carshalton or Wallington need the gate controlled, and traffic marshals for deliveries that cross the pavement.

Services

Which of our services suit Sutton?

  1. Warehouse and industrial security

The council's evidence for its draft Local Plan found very low vacancy rates on Sutton's industrial land, which includes the Beddington, Kimpton and Imperial Way Strategic Industrial Locations. Officers on a Kimpton or Beddington gate can check every vehicle and patrol the yard after hours.

  2. Construction site security

The next stage of the London Cancer Hub in Belmont has over a million square feet of research and laboratory space to build. Officers can control the site gate and guard it overnight.

  3. Retail security

Sutton's pedestrianised high street is the heart of a metropolitan town centre with its own BID, Successful Sutton. A uniformed officer there can deter theft and back up shop staff.

  4. Keyholding and alarm response

From Worcester Park to Wallington, shops and offices in Sutton's six district centres close at night. We hold your keys and send an SIA-licensed officer when the alarm goes off, so your staff can stay at home.

  5. Mobile security patrols

Business units on the Kimpton and Beddington estates that shut at night don't always need an officer on site. A patrol can call at set or random times to try the doors and shutters and walk the fence line.
